Employment Law & Human Resources Program

The program consists of seven modules:

• Module 1: Legal Framework
• Module 2: Employment Standards Act
• Module 3: Occupational Health and Safety Act
• ​Module 4: Human Rights and Attendance Management
• ​Module 5: HR Processes and Organizational Planning
• Module 6: Understanding Collective Agreements
• Module 7: Discipline and Termination

An HR report is also required if you are enrolled in the DMA. (See Completion Requirements below.) 

The program is delivered through a combination of pre-recorded videos, reading materials, and three live Zoom classes with an instructor.

Modules 1-4:

• Self-paced videos and readings (approximately 10 hours) 

• Zoom class #1: Modules 1-4 review (1 hour) 

Module 5:

• Zoom class #2: HR Processes and Organizational Planning (6 hours)

Modules 6-7:

• Zoom class #3: Module 6 - Understanding Collective Agreements and Module 7 - Discipline and Termination (5 hours for both)

A certificate of completion is awarded upon completing the seven modules.

If you are enrolled in the DMA, you must also submit a 4000-word employment law or human resources report on a topic of your choice that relates to any of the modules. A proposal for the report will be due two to three weeks after the conclusion of Module 7, and the full report will be due approximately nine weeks after the approval of the proposal. A specific schedule with deadlines will be provided to each cohort.

A minimum report grade of 60% is required to gain credit for the HR program toward the DMA.

$1,669.00 +HST

All course materials are included in the tuition fees. There is no textbook for the program.

HR is one of the programs that we offer under the status of a Certified Educational Institution. Tuition fees for this program are tax-deductible.

All cancellation requests must be sent in writing by email.

A refund levy of $200.00 +HST will be applied to all cancellations received up to two weeks (14 days) prior to the first day of the program. Refunds are not granted for cancellations made within 13  days or less of the program.

Registrations and payments cannot be transferred to a later date.

You may be eligible to apply for exemption from HR if: 

• You are enrolled in the AMCTO Diploma in Municipal Administration (DMA) program; and

• You have a CHRP, CHRL, or CHRE designation and your work experience meets the criteria under section 5(i) of the DMA Terms of Reference.
