Committees & Working Groups

The mandate of the AMCTO Management Committee is to serve and act in the interests of the larger AMCTO Board of Directors, representative of the membership, to provide timely guidance and advice on the Association's operations on an as-needed basis. This committee along with the larger AMCTO Board, supports the delivery of programs and services that strengthen the capabilities and performance of our members and municipal professionals.

Formerly the Legislative and Policy Advisory Committee (LPAC) 

The mandate of the Policy & Government Relations Committee (PGRC) is to assist in developing and maintaining a close liaison with all levels of government through the identification and evaluation of key legislative and regulatory issues affecting the responsibilities of members. PGRC is also responsible for identifying tools and/or resource needs of members as a result of legislative changes.

This new Accreditation Committee has been established to help create more structure for the previous Accreditation Advisory Groups and allow for more cross-accreditation information sharing. The committee serves as an 'arms-length' entity between the governing body (AMCTO) and the actual certification of accreditation applicants. 

The purpose of the new Network, Community & Membership Committee (NCMC) is to create purposeful engagement opportunities between AMCTO staff and a more diverse group of AMCTO members, including New Professional, Associate, Student, and Retired members. The group will discuss issues related to membership services and programs, networking, and communications. The NCMC incorporates the role of the previous Ethics Advisory Working Group and plays an important role in reviewing the Association’s Code of Ethics and Values and discussing matters related to member ethics. 

The purpose of the new Professional Growth Committee (PGC) is to create connections between members and AMCTO education and professional development staff, allowing the Association to receive feedback on existing programming and ideas on new offerings that may help to advance our mission of supporting members' and municipal staff's professional growth. 

The AMCTO Conference Planning Committee is tasked with reviewing and selecting speaker and session proposals to build our annual conference agenda. The committee also makes event recommendations based on current sector trends, AMCTO Zone, and other sector networking discussion topics and activities. Committee members help identify professional development workshop session learning streams and topics, fun activities, and provide oversight and guidance to the overall event program to ensure the conference meets the needs of municipal professionals across Ontario. 

Following Board-approved submission guidelines and established competency standards, members of the Certified Municipal Officer (CMO) Accreditation Review Team and the Accredited Municipal Professional (AMP) Accreditation Review Team have a mandate to evaluate the certification and maintenance of CMO and AMP applications and make recommendations to the AMCTO Board of Directors regarding their approval.

Every election cycle, the Municipal Elections Working Group assists in the development and review of AMCTO Municipal Elections Training Program materials and learning modules to support members and clerks across the province on matters related to municipal elections planning, legislation and policy, council relations, and orientations.

AMCTO Forum Focus Groups assist with developing our annual Forum programming to ensure that Forums continue to meet the needs of municipal professionals. Forum Focus Groups identify themes, relevant topics, and speakers. The group also makes event recommendations based on current sector trends, AMCTO Zone, and other sector networking discussion topics and activities.
