An AMCTO tradition every third week in October, today marks the beginning of Local Government Week where we celebrate the hard work and accomplishments of our members and all local government professionals.
On behalf of the Association Board of Directors and staff, I want to thank you all for your continued support of AMCTO as a member and thank you for all that you do to serve your communities – especially in this busy election year. Your commitment and dedication to providing important community programs and services and ensuring a seamless democratic process, does not go unnoticed.
As we reflect on our collective sector accomplishments this week, I encourage you to follow our AMCTO social media channels where we will be sharing more details around our AMCTO Issue Profile and ways you can get involved in our advocacy work. It is our goal to ensure our members and municipal professionals’ needs are heard. We will also be highlighting some of our members’ stories – join the conversation and help us spread the word about how great it is to work in local government using the hashtag, #LocalGovWeek.
I am also proud to share that in addition to their day-to-day work to support you, our members, AMCTO staff will be supporting you on election day. As part of our ongoing commitment to provide professional growth (for the sector and for staff), AMCTO staff have taken on election duties in their communities and will be ‘out in the field’ on October 24th to help your election teams. All remuneration for this work will be added to the donations towards our 2023 conference charities of choice (stay tuned for details TBA). In the meantime, if you’re working the polls in the following areas, I encourage you to say hello to AMCTO staff:
- Charlotte Caza – Advisor, Policy – Voting Clerk for the City of Waterloo
- Ya-Yin Ko – Manager, Education – Ballot Deputy Returning Officer for the City of Toronto
- Alana Del Greco – Manager, Policy & Government Relations – Deputy Returning Officer for the City of Brampton
- David Arbuckle – Executive Director – Tabulator Deputy Returning Officer for the City of Hamilton
- Dan Nguyen – Manager, Finance & Administration – Deputy Returning Officer for the City of Brampton
- Nathalie Plourde – Advisor, Membership & Accreditation – Greeter for the City of Brampton
We are honoured to support you and work together to build thriving communities. I wish you all a very happy #LocalGovWeek and the best of luck with everything this election! Thank you for all that you do!
Sincerely,
Elana Arthurs, CMO, AOMC
