2019-10-24 2:34:43 PM

The Ministry of Finance today issued 2020’s Ontario Municipal Partnership Fund (OMPF) allocations. As previously reported, this year’s funding envelope to municipal governments would decrease by $5 million to $500 million. The $500 million will be distributed 389 municipalities in Ontario.

Letters to Heads of Councils and Treasurers are now being sent.

AMCTO has continuously cautioned this government on any reductions and cuts in transfer payments. Many of Ontario’s municipal governments, specifically communities located in rural and northern Ontario, heavily rely on OMPF. Any cuts could be significantly damaging to their overall budgets and their ability to deliver services to their communities.

AMCTO most recently highlighted this file during delegations at the Association of Municipalities Ontario (AMO) recent conference with Ontario Attorney General (Doug Downey), Parliamentary Assistant to the Minister of Finance (Stan Cho), and Green Party Leader Mike Schreiner.

According to AMO, the historical OMPF allocations are as follows (in millions of $):
