Government Repeals Firefighter Certification Regulation

2018-10-16 11:35:23 AM

The government has repealed a new regulation, enacted under the Fire Protection and Prevent Act, that would have created new requirements for mandatory firefighter training and certification. Minister of Community Safety and Correctional Services Michael Tibollo said in a letter that "My goal remains to ensure both firefighter and public safety and to that end, I agree in principle with the certification of all firefighters. Moving forward, however, I want to ensure that any proposals concerning fire safety balance the interests of all stakeholders." Two other regulations, regarding community risk assessments and public reporting remain in effect.
