Yesterday, the Government of Alberta unveiled its proposed plan for the legalization and sale of recreational cannabis. Key features of the plan include:
-
Establishing a minimum age of 18 to buy or use cannabis
-
Allowing public possession of 30 grams (purchases will also be limited to 30 grams)
-
Establishing sales in speciality stores, separate from alcohol and tobacco
-
Prohibiting smoking or vaping in vehicles (including by passengers)
-
Requiring public smoking and vaping to comply with existing tobacco laws
-
Allowing home-growing of up to four plans
-
Prohibiting outdoor growing
While some of these measures align with
Ontario's proposed plan, other areas are divergent.
