The federal government has revealed much-anticipated plans for resettling 25,000 Syrian refugees over the coming months. According to details released yesterday by Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC), all 25,000 refugees will be identified by December 31, 2015, but only 10,000 will arrive by that date with an additional 15,000 coming by the end of February 2016.
Refugees will be settled all across the country with Windsor, Ottawa, London, Toronto, Kitchener, and Hamilton identified as the host communities in Ontario. All told CIC projects that the plan will cost the federal government between $564 - $678 million. The government of Ontario has pledged an additional $10.5 million over two years to promote refugee sponsorship and settlement support.
