Ontario Private Cannabis Retail Store Openings Delayed

2019-03-26 9:37:49 AM

The Ontario Government yesterday confirmed that the province's process to set up private cannabis retail stores is taking longer than predicated. Minister of Finance Vic Fedeli said that customers will have to "wait and see" which of the 25 private retailers who were granted licenses will be ready to open for business on April 1.

While the AGCO in December announced the province was to phase in cannabis retail licensing, only 10 out of the 25 store authorizations were handed out. Minister Fedeli did not provide a reason for the delay and it is unclear if the retailers would face a fine if the delay was determined to be out of their control .
