Senate to Begin Studying Rules for Self-driving Vehicles

Canada’s federal Minister of Transport Marc Garneau has requested the Senate’s transportation and communications committee to launch a review of the regulatory, policy, and technical implications of self-driving vehicles. The growth of driverless technology in the automotive sector has begun to attract attention from legislators in a number of countries, as the commercial uses of such technology appear to be only a few years away from entering the market. This request also marks the first effort on the part of the new federal government to shift the focus of the controversial upper house towards a role as an independent body that supports the legislative work of government.   For more: Canada's Senate to Study the Rules Around Driverless Cars
