The government of Ontario has launched its consultations on cannabis legalization. In April of 2017 the federal government introduced legislation that would legalize recreational cannabis and require provinces and territories to create a framework for regulating the distribution, sale and consumption of legalized cannabis. The province is looking for feedback on five key elements of legalization:
setting a minimum age for having, using and buying cannabis
deciding where people can use cannabis
preventing driving while intoxicated
regulating cannabis sales
planning public education
While the government is providing several avenues for individuals, organizations and municipalities to provide input into the provinces plan for legalization, the consultation period is unusually short. Comments and suggestions will only be accepted until July 31, 2017. You can find more information about participating in this consultation here.
