Ontario Premier Doug Ford and Minister of Infrastructure Laurie Scott today announced a $200 million investment into the Ontario Community Infrastructure Fund (OCIF) to 424 small, rural, and northern municipalities. The funding is for core road, bridge, water, wastewater and stormwater infrastructure systems in municipalities with populations less than 100,000 residents, in addition to all rural and northern communities.
The funding is allocated based on a formula and municipalities may accumulate their formula funding for up to five years to address larger infrastructure projects.
Last year’s funding was also for $200 million.
AMCTO is pleased the funding allocation for this year was maintained as it is provides a number of Ontario's local governments rely on funding to build and maintain critical infrastructure. We have continuously been cautioning the government on any reductions on municipal transfer payments as they can be significantly damaging on a municipality's ability to service their communities.
OCIF formula grants can be found here.
