AMCTO is pleased that Premier Ford on Monday during the 2019 annual Rural Ontario Municipalities Association conference announced that his government is launching consultations on reforming joint and several liability.
Over the past several years AMCTO has been advocating for a reform in the system as Ontario municipalities are increasingly becoming the targets of litigation and forced to offer generous out of court settlements. Reforming joint and several liability has been recommended in AMCTO's three previous pre-budget submissions and we are currently exploring the issue further with our partner organizations.
We appreciate that Premier Ford agrees with us on the merit of this by undergoing consultations and AMCTO looks to be engaged in the process moving forward.
