Aviva Canada, a large insurance company, announced yesterday that it will launch a new insurance product for drivers using their personal vehicles to transport paying customers. Primarily designed for drivers of services like Uber, this new coverage will be available in Ontario beginning in February, and will function as an add-on to personal insurance.
President and CEO of Aviva Canada Greg Somerville:
With ride-sharing on the rise, consumers have new options available to them, however there is a gap in insurance coverage which potentially leaves them without appropriate protection and benefits. When consumer needs change, we must evolve our insurance solutions to respond.
Before it can enter into effect, Aviva's new insurance product must be approved by the Financial Services Commission of Ontario.
