Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and Deputy Prime Minister Chrystia Freeland met with FCM’s (Federation of Canadian Municipalities) Big City Mayors’ Caucus yesterday in Ottawa to discuss municipal priorities ahead of the federal government’s 2020 budget.

Mayors from 22 of Canada’s largest cities, including Bonnie Crombie (Mississauga), John Tory (Toronto), Jim Watson (Ottawa), were in attendance with discussions centering on a budget that commits to a permanent transit fund, a focus on climate adaption, and housing affordability.

While an official federal budget release date is not yet known, Canada’s Finance Minister Bill Morneau has hinted the budget will emphasize the environment, in addition to health care and safety issues, such as gun control.
