Elections Ontario is testing a new polling system during the Whitby-Oshawa by-election this month. The new approach is designed to mitigate the challenges that Elections Ontario had had in recent elections attracting poll workers, while making better use of advances in technology. On voting day in Oshawa, Elections Ontario will have fewer people at each polling place, while allowing voters to get their ballot from any available official, and use an electronic poll book to process voters faster. Votes will be case using vote tabulators, which are already widely used at the municipal level.
