Health Canada has announced plans to license 208 new cannabis producers, more than tripling the current number of official growers in the country. The move is designed to substantially increase the capacity of the cannabis industry as the government's proposed date for legalization looms. The federal government has said that it does not plan to put a cap on the number of licensed growers in order to foster a competitive market.
