Advocacy Priorities


We recognize that the solutions to some of Ontario's greatest policy challenges can be found within local communities - urban, rural, northern and remote. It is because of this that we work so closely with senior governements on behalf of our members. With a strong focus on policy-based advocacy, our goal is to provide research, evidence and recommendations to support Ontario communities.

Local Elections


Election administration is a mandated responsibility for many of our members. The following resources aim to provide guidance when it comes to processes around local election administration.

A comprehensive resource guide on municipally-relevant legislation and governance at the local level.

Municipal Reporting Burden


A look at our 2016 research study on the provincial reporting burden placed on local government and its impact on effective service delivery.

Budget Advocacy


Each year, we provide formal recommendations on where provincial budget priorities should rest in relation to Ontario's local governments.

Capacity Building


A strong partnership with the Province around investing in sector-capacity is critical — especially in areas of human capital and effective succession planning.

Accountability & Transparency


With Bill 8, rulings by the Information and Privacy Commissioner (IPC) and changes to the Municipal Act are augmenting the sector's accountability and transparency framework in Ontario.

Council Compensation


Our 2017 research on the state of council compensation in Ontario. The aim of this report is to provide administrators with an evidence-based approach to inform the process of council remuneration.
